Public Skate Sessions
Groups of 20 or more skaters qualify for a group rate during public sessions. Groups exceeding 30 skaters are encouraged to consider a private rental to alleviate overcrowding of public session.

Group Ice Skating & Hockey Lessons
Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena’s group skating lessons follow the U.S. Figure Skating Association’s Skate with US program which is a beginning skating program that is fun, challenging and rewarding. The program will also enable skaters of all ages to learn the fundamentals of skating and begin a lifetime commitment to health and fitness. The program has 6 levels of basic skills followed by specialized programs in freestyle, hockey and power skating. Please specify if skate rental is needed when registering!
Snowplow Sam 1 & 2 (ages 4-6): 30 minutes of instruction for beginning skaters. NO online registration, call 812-372686 to register.
Basic 1-6: 30 minutes of instruction. Classes are a progressive level of fundamental ice skating skills, including forward and backward skating, turns, crossovers, stops and edges.
Novice Club: 45 minutes of instruction for beginning figure skaters including stroking, jumps and spins. Skaters must have passed Basic 6 to be eligible for this class.
Speed Skating: Short track Speed Skating can best be described as NASCAR on ice! Whether you are looking to become a speed skater, or just wanting a fun way to get out and stay fit, the Learn to Speed Skate program is the perfect place for you! Speed Skating is a sport for all ages and skill levels. Come out and give it a try!
Adults Class: 30 minutes of instruction. Skaters learn fundamental ice skating skills including forward and backward skating, stops and turns.
Beginning Hockey Basics: 30 minutes of instruction on basic skating and hockey skills. All skaters will be in full hockey gear, available at Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena.
Advanced Hockey Basics: 30 minutes of instruction on advanced hockey skating and hockey skills. Players will begin to be introduced to game play. All skaters will be in full hockey gear, available at Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena.

Figure Skating Programs
Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena is home to the U.S. Figure Skating’s, Lincoln Center Figure Skating Club (LCSC). We are proud to host LCSC and to be able to provide to the members of our community, as a result of our partnership, the programs, shows and lessons that come along with them! We invite you to explore in greater depth, the coaches, members of the club, and details of the club itself by visiting their website. We also invite you to register for one of our figure skating program listed below, or visit us during our punch card sessions.

Our 45-minute practice sessions offered before and after school allow skaters of all ages and abilities to work on their skating skills and/or have private lessons. 2025 Summer FIGURE SKATING Punch Card Sessions
May 27 -August 5| 7:30am – 12:15am (hours vary)
Get an edge! Daily practice sessions offered that allow figure skaters of all ages and abilities to perfect their skating skills. Private and semi-private lessons are available with our coaches during these practice sessions. Guest coaches and their students are welcome. Guest coaches must pay a $25 weekly fee.
High Sessions will be the following: 7:30-8:15 and 8:15-9:00 (High sessions will require skaters to have passed a minimum level of Bronze skating skills and/or bronze Single Free Skate)
Mixed Sessions will be the following: 9:00-9:45 and 10:00-10:45 (Open to all skating levels)
Low Sessions will be the following: 10:45-11:30 and 11:30-12:15 (Must have passed basic 6 or with a coach)

Hockey Programs
Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena provides hockey classes and leagues for both our youth and adult participants. In addition, we also work in close partnership with Columbus Youth Hockey (CYH), Indiana University – Bloomington D2 and D3 teams, Total Package Hockey, and many others! We have also partnered with USA Hockey to be able to provide FREE programs such as Try Hockey for Free and equipment to our House League programs.
Adult Hockey
Adult Hockey Drop-In (18+)
Beginner Play: Beginner Drop-Ins are open to all beginner hockey players. This is a great opportunity to work on skating and stick handling during a hockey game with no ref on the ice.
Intermediate Play: Adults looking for a competitive yet recreational game are encouraged to come out and play with this group. This level is for players who are ready to test their hockey skills against other recreational players with no ref on the ice.

Youth Hockey

House League Hockey
Did you know that Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports across the nation? In the state of Indiana alone, programs have seen large percentages of growth and we do not expect the trend to slow down any time soon! Join the trend and get your son or daughter registered for our in-house hockey program today! Players must have completed all levels of Hockey Basics or instructor referral to participate in league. Thanks in part to generous donations in addition to grants provided through USA Hockey, we are able to provide uniforms at no charge to participants of the House League program. No travel required.

Sled Hockey
Call-In Registration | $5
Sled hockey is an adaptation of ice hockey which uses an open frame “sled” for players to sit on and move around the ice. Players use two smaller sticks instead of one long stick. One end of the stick is used as a pusher and the other end has a more traditional blade which is used to control, pass, and shoot the puck. Join us for this weekly drop-in, learning the basics of sled hockey. No experience is necessary and all equipment, including helmets and gloves will be provided. Call ahead to set up a session.

Norty’s Hockey School

Hosted by Coaches John Mihalik (Trine University) and Zach Sens (Miami University) this program will emphasize the skills of skating and puck control. This camp is in honor of Mike Norton who passed away in December of 2023. Mike loved the Columbus Hockey Camp and had coached the Columbus Hockey Camp for over 20 Years. He is greatly missed.

Hawaii on Ice

Come beat the heat at Hamilton Center’s “Hawaii” on Ice” summer camp! This will include activities both on and off the ice! Large ice games, small ice games, and off ice crafts will be included at this camp! No skating experience is required as there will always be something to do! There will also be a big ice luau party on Friday! Skaters must have completed kindergarten to participate!

Edgework Group Lessons
June 4 – July 30 | Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena | $80
This class will focus on the fundamentals of ice skating edgework specifically for the sport of hockey. Inside and outside edges will be the focus combined with balance and agility. This class is not power skating but an instructional based teaching of proper mechanics in edgework. No classes week oh July 4. NO ONLINE REGISTRATION! Robby Glantz Training Camp

Robby Glantz hockey camp focuses on technique speed training, acceleration, and explosive starts! Training will include bungie cords and more. Come train with a skating coach of the NHL stars! This camp is limited to travel hockey players only and players will be split by age/level for skill and station training.

A spacious area that could fit a variety of gatherings, from reunions to weddings and receptions, depending on your needs. Sound proof doors will keep you separate from the hustle and bustle of the daily ice schedule. This room can accommodate approximately 100 people. A kitchen containing a refrigerator, ice machine, sinks and counter space is available.

Miller-Tangemen Room & Hashman Terrace
This room has enough space to shape it for a wide variety of events. Weddings, receptions, presentations and meetings of all kinds have transformed our sunroom into the perfect venue for your event. The Miller-Tangeman room can accommodate up to 40 people. Sound proof doors will block you off from the rest of the building, it will be like no one else is there! The patio doors open up to our newly renovated private terrace, providing you with an additional area for your guests to relax and mingle. The terrace itself can hold up to 30 people. A kitchen containing a refrigerator, ice machine, sinks and counter space is available.

Ice Rentals for Preschools/Schools
- Preschools inside and outside Bartholomew County can enjoy one hour once a year of free ice time. Students can wear their own shoes or use skates at no cost. Scooters for the children to hold on to will also be available.
- Schools inside Bartholomew County can enjoy one hour once a year of free ice time with the option of staying over 1 hour at a discounted $110/hour fee. A skate rental fee of $2/child will be required the day of the rental.
- Schools outside Bartholomew County can enjoy a discounted fee of $110/hour. A skate rental fee of $2/child will be required the day of the rental. Click here to view the school rental agreement contract.
Birthday Party Rentals
The Gold Party
This party will be held in the Miller-Tangeman Room, located next to the Hashman Terrace. The Gold Party includes tables and chairs to accommodate your party requirements, one hour in the room and one hour on the small ice for 10 skaters (these are consecutive times).

The Princess Party
This party is held in the Miller-Tangeman Room, located near the Hashman Terrace. The Princess Party includes the room for one hour, the small ice for one hour, at least one princess that will have tea and skate with the party guests, paper products (cups, plates and napkins), drinks (tea and lemonade), and a craft for 10 princesses.

Chuck Wilt Youth Scholarship Program
Recipients of the Chuck Wilt Youth Scholarship Program can be approved for $200.00 per child per calendar year. If you do not use the full $200.00 by December 31, the balance will go back into the scholarship program. Families can apply each calendar year.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the Chuck Wilt Youth Scholarship Program, all families must show proof of residency in Bartholomew County and proof that the child is under their care (School document, Medical or Insurance document, Birth Certificate, Social Security card, Hoosier Healthwise card, most recent 1040 with dependents).
Families will also need to show proof of receiving at least one of the following:
- Social Security Supplemental or Disability Income
- Public assistance through the Division of Family Resources, i.e., Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Food Stamps
- Free lunch assistance through the local schools
- Public assistance through the City of Columbus Housing Authority
- Hoosier Healthwise Card
OR - If a family has foster children in their household, we will need to see foster paperwork.
Guidelines:
- Scholarship Amount – Individuals are eligible for a maximum of $200.00 per child for the calendar year.
- Scholarships will be awarded only as funds are available.
- Children under the age of 18 are eligible for a scholarship.
- Eligible programs – All Parks and Recreation programs. Scholarship does not cover season passes, private instruction, daily admission, equipment rentals and tickets to local events.
- Families residing in Bartholomew County are eligible.
- Scholarships are available for immediate members of a family or foster children who live with the family throughout the year. Scholarships are not available for friends or relatives visiting or staying for a period of time. Scholarships for such individuals should be submitted by the parent/guardian for that family, if applicable.
- Approval of the scholarship is subject to verification of the information provided with the application.
- Applicants will receive notification or approval or denial via phone within 7 business days from the date of the application.
- The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to revoke admission to a facility, program, or activity for misuse or cause.
